6-INCH BTD Gamechanger Jig - Gizzard Shad - Finneaus Edition
During the fall/winter/spring, a plethora of open water fishing opportunties exists in the Great Lakes. While alewives have been predominantly the preferred forage base that trout and salmon consume during the summer season, the opposite occurs during the winter as water temperatures drop and fall turnover completes is process. Several published studies have determined that Great Lakes trout such as brown trout, lake trout, and steelhead have alternatively focused their foraging preferences towards round gobies and gizzard shad. Although round gobies (e.g. invasive) are a sigificant piece of the Great Lakes food web, native gizzard shad make up another important component to it. Gizzard shad frequent the shallower to mid-depth harbor systems and interconnecting backwater lagoons and streams during fall, winter, and spring. Warmwater discharge areas also attract gizzard shad. Average length of Great Lakes gizzard shad is in the 3 to 7 inch range with larger specimens topping out at 16 inches. The upper back consists of a 2-part color combination of medium grey and light blue bucktail coupled with white underbelly. Each region of the multi-articulated hair jig progressivley increases with length and volume of bucktail. The front section contains a topping with blue-pearl rainbow Polar Flash. Initial realism is observed with two sets of fins - pelvic and pectoral - formulated with hen saddle grizzly feathers. Tail section contains individual hen saddle feathers tied 360 degrees around the tail shank with a #2 Gamakatsu octopus stinger hook. Gamechanger gizzard shad (Finneaus Edition) features 4 articulations with 5 regions. The second section is articulated to the main jighook shank with 50-pound braid. The swimbait jighead is custom painted with a special white glitter coat that really shines in the water column, especially in overcast conditions with remaining light availability. Lateral line features multiple strands of segmented pearl Lateral Scale Flashabou. Eyes are 10 mm Flymen Fish Company in color "Earth" and reinforced with several applications of thin and thick UV resin. This is one of the ultimate hair jigs ever designed for trophy Great Lakes brown trout and lake trout.
