Bucktail Deceiver Trolling Fly - PURPLEBACK HERRING

The Bucktail Deceiver Trolling Fly in “purpleback herring” blends multiple hues of black and purple in the upper back. Fly pattern specifically contains well detailed topping of custom dyed purple grizzly saddle feathers, purple flashabou, and peacock herl. Additional details include purple hen saddle grizzly feathers for operculum (e.g. Gill flap region), Lateral scale flash for lateral line, and holographic eyes from Flymen Fish Co. Purpleback herring available in length models of 3 inches up to 12 inches. The 3-inch model is the perfect sized edition for spring Great Lakes Coho. The 4- and 5-inch models are excellent all around sizes for all trout and salmon species of the Great Lakes. The 6, 7, and 8-inch models are specifically designed to target large king salmon in both the Great Lakes and Pacific West Coast. The 10-inch and 12-inch model are the ultimate trophy hunters for giant lake trout, pike, muskie, stripers, billfish, tuna, and other large freshwater and marine gamefish. The 12-inch model features a “hollow-tied” bucktail body, a tying technique that allows for maximum swimming performance of the fly during the trolling presentation. Compared to standard tie-ins with bucktail, maximum swimming performance is achieved with this technique because the hair is distributed 360° around the tube thereby allowing the hair to pulsate in multiple directions. The special technique was developed by Bob Popovics, an East Coast fly tying legend who revolutionized the art of tying bucktail.  In addition to the fine detail of this pattern, is the extreme durability and versatility. Multiple applications of resin are used on the thread wraps underneath the bucktail hair body as well as the eyeballs and head region which ultimately result in a fly that will last for a very long time. Since the fly is tied on a tube, it will slide up the main flurocarbon trolling leader after strike impact thereby increasing its life history. Comes pre-rigged with snelled Gamakatsu octopus hook via 40- or 50-pound flurocarbon leader. Models 7-inches and larger come custom-rigged with a double-hooked octopus hook.
